Laura Zavala-Membreno, M.Ed., LPC
Therapy is my life's work. It's where I find my passion and my purpose.
I began my journey into counseling nearly a decade ago. A (twice) graduate of the University of Houston, I earned my Master of Education degree in 2011. In 2014, I became a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas. I have worked with adults healing from traumas such as childhood sexual abuse, sexual assault, and abusive relationships. I have witnessed the devastating toll that trauma can take on a person's life, as well as the overcoming of those effects so that survivors can live full, joyful lives.
In 2015, I completed Basic Training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, a powerful approach that can have a dramatic impact on reducing the emotional, mental, and somatic effects of trauma. Since then, I have completed advanced trainings, and am hours away from becoming a certified EMDR therapist.
In 2016, I became trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), a cognitive-behavioral approach that has helped many individuals become unstuck from the damaging effects of a traumatic event. In 2017, I completed supervision in CPT to become a CPT Provider.
In addition to these therapies, I am trained in and have experience providing several other techniques that can help reduce stress, alleviate anxiety, build resilience, and improve quality of life. Whether or not you think one of the above therapies may be for you, my goal is to collaboratively create a unique path towards your healing, and work towards your goals together. I believe that collaboration, trust, safety, transparency and authenticity are essential to the therapeutic relationship and the healing process as a whole.
